What is witch house? A beginner's guide to the darkest corner of electronic music, with MAN1K
Slowed-down beats, buried vocals, occult imagery and a lot of reverb. Here is what witch house is, how it sounds live, and why MAN1K is one of the best ways in.

Every few years a genre turns up that sounds like nothing else, and witch house is one of them. It is slow where most dance music is fast, murky where most of it is clean, and it treats atmosphere as the main event. If you have ever wondered what the triangles, crosses and candlelit DJ booths are about, this is your guide.
The sound
Witch house sits where electronic music meets the dark. The core ingredients:
- Slowed-down tempos. Beats are dragged down, often well below house speed, so the track feels heavy and hypnotic rather than bright.
- Buried vocals. Voices are pitched, stretched and drowned in reverb until they sound like something half remembered.
- Huge low end. Deep, distorted bass that you feel as much as you hear.
- Borrowed darkness. Elements of dark ambient, darkwave, industrial and noise, plus the chopped and slowed production style of hip-hop.
The result is music that pulls you down rather than lifting you up, which is exactly the point.
The look
Witch house has always been as visual as it is musical. Occult symbols, triangles and crosses, grainy imagery and track names written in symbols are part of the culture. Live, that becomes candles, smoke, chains and low red light. A good witch house show is closer to a ritual than a club night.
How it plays live
Through headphones, witch house is moody. In a room with a proper sound system, it is physical. The low end hits your chest, the reverb fills the space, and the slow tempo makes a crowd move together in a way faster music rarely does.
That is where MAN1K comes in. The Ukrainian producer and DJ builds his shows around exactly that experience: candles, chains, smoke and a wall of distortion, with dark ambient, darkwave and industrial noise woven through the set. His dates have taken that sound from Lviv to Tokyo, Osaka and Madrid, proof that witch house may be small in any one city but is connected across borders by people who go looking for it.
Where to start
New to the genre? Start with two of MAN1K's own originals, both on his SoundCloud and linked from his EPK:
- Hextronic: a slow industrial pulse with the melody half hidden under the noise. The cleanest introduction.
- Duskblaze (feat. Lattice Lovers): darker and more melodic, the place where witch house meets darkwave.

For promoters
If you run a dark, experimental or goth-leaning night, witch house gives you something no other genre does: a show that people talk about afterwards. MAN1K's EPK has his music, his videos, his photos and his touring history in one place.
