About this venue
Opened in 1867, the Tyne Theatre & Opera House is a historic Grade I listed venue in Newcastle upon Tyne. Designed by William Parnell for industrialist and politician Joseph Cowen as 'a theatre for everyone', it features a lavish auditorium, world-class acoustics, and rare, fully operational Victorian understage wooden machinery. Today, the venue hosts a diverse, year-round program including live music concerts, stand-up comedy, theatrical productions, musicals, opera, ballet, and community events. Located in Newcastle city centre, it offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere across its grand main auditorium, historic foyer bars, and event spaces.
