About this venue
Colonel Porter's Emporium is a 1920s-themed tavern, botanical garden, and rum bar located on Dean Street in Newcastle city centre. Opened in 2017, the venue pays homage to James Herbert Porter—the master brewer who co-created Newcastle Brown Ale in 1927 alongside chemist Archie Jones. The interior is decorated in an eclectic vintage style filled with antiques, curiosities, plush Chesterfield sofas, and secret spaces including Archie's Lab, a hidden disco behind a bookcase. The venue hosts a wide variety of live entertainment including live acoustic music, funk and soul acts, DJs, open mic nights, tipsy afternoon teas, and rum masterclasses. Situated in historic Milburn House near the Quayside, Colonel Porter's offers a vibrant speakeasy atmosphere suitable for casual drinks, parties, and private functions.
