Flying Earrings

WHO ARE THE EARRINGS? We are the Flying Earrings, an All-FLINTA* polycule of a band from Leipzig, Germany, centered on Serpentina (lead vocals & electric ukulele), Ari (guitars), and Estha (drums). In addition, we like to add musicians on keys, bass, co-vocals, violin and other instruments from what we like to call the “Earrings Cinematic Universe”. No matter the lineup, we are uncompromisingly FLINTA*, uncompromisingly antifascist, uncompromisingly ourselves. We celebrate Radical Queerness, intimacy, and all the feelings: from slippery horny to incandescent angry and back again. If reviews can be trusted, we “sound like progressive rock made by theatre kids”, “deliver bold indie rock with sharp guitar lines and confident vocals”, but are “not subtle enough and too direct.” We are also “perfect for your Bohemian nights where you want to forget the world.” We think all of these are compliments. And wherever we play, we find audiences who hunger for genuine connection as much as we do. HEADMISTRESS, VOCALS, UKULELE SERPENTINA GUITAR ARI DRUMS ESTHA BAND BIOGRAPHY The Flying Earrings began as a fictional band in a screenplay written by Headmistress Serpentina (aka Riley Alexandra Dedio). Serpentina began life as the fictional frontwoman of an equally fictional band called The Flying Earrings in a screenplay written for a Netflic spec script competiton and hasn’t looked back since. Serpentina’s mirror Riley Alexandra Dedio spent her first 40 years cosplaying as a guy before transitioning during the peak of the COVID pandemic. As an avid film and television writer/director (with three Netflix Original documentaries under her belt), she promptly turned her transition experience into a spec script. While the script didn’t get picked up, there was a scene featuring an all-FLINTA* band called the Flying Earrings, led by a singer called Serpentina, playing a packed Berlin venue, though Riley did not and could not have known that this would be her just a few years down the line. Many people coped with lockdowns by getting into sourdough bread and yoga. For Riley, it was rediscovering the joy of playing instruments when she was gifted a ukulele, which in turn led to her dusting off her long-neglected guitar. Riley’s transition had by then progressed into taking singing lessons with Leipzig based vocal coach/producer/music wizard Elfyn. With these particular stars aligning – namely transitioning, singing and playing guitar, proximity to “the Madonna of Leipzig’s DIY music scene”, and having created a fictional band – Riley decided to put it all together and launch a second career. Riley wrote and Elfyn produced one song and then another, and it is this collaboration that would truly mark the foundation of the Flying Earrings as a band. A first, tentative live gig followed in Elfyn’s 2024 student recital celebration, then the release of the Flying Earrings’ first EP “Dreams” in March of 2025, coinciding with their first headline show. Since then, Riley has poured as much of her creativity (and money) as she can spare into the dream of taking this second career as far as it will go. Music has become her life’s blood. The stage is where she feels truly, utterly, unashamedly herself and alive. Riley (and The Flying Earrings) have grown with their challenges. They have played plenty of shows, band members have come and gone, and the first album is just about finished. Stay tuned for more unashamedly, uncompromisingly Earrings content!
